Solar Heating in Europe - Challenges and Opportunities

Prof. Wolfgang Streicher studied Mechanical Engineering at Graz University of Technology. He holds the char of energy efficient buildings and Renewable Energy in the Civil Engineering Faculty of the University of Innsbruck. It represents a link between classical civil engineering in the building sector and the more mechanical engineering driven HVAC (Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning) system and the use of renewable energy (solar, biomass, ambient heat) in buildings. He is working in the field of solar thermal systems since 1993. He was subtask leader in IEA SHC Task 26 for simulation IEA SHC Task 32 for phase change materials and active in the further IEA SHC Tasks 25, 38 (Solar assisted cooling) and 42 (new storage technologies). He was and is involved in several other national and international projects dealing with low energy buildings, HVAC systems, biomass burners, active and passive solar thermal energy use, and lighting and energy scenarios and in the introduction of the EPBD in Austria.

Prof. Jan Olof-Dalenbäck is professor in Buildings Services Engineering, Dept. Civil and Environmental Engineering, Chalmers University of Technology, Gothenburg, Sweden. Jan-Olof Dalenbäcks R&D focus is on reduced use of energy in buildings and other spaces that have demands on a certain climate and/or activity. His special topics are solar energy applications and energy efficiency. He is profile leader in Energy Area of Advance och participates as expert and advisor in different national and international, academic and industry, groupings. He got IEA SHC Solar Award 2005 and ISES Special Service Award 2009.

Víctor Martínez is professor at the Polytechnic School of the University of the Balearic Islands, he works in the Energy Engineering Research Group on the development and analysis of solar thermal collectors and he is the Chair of the Scientific Committee of the Eurosun 2016.
