Heliac makes solar collectors that produce heat in utility-scale at costs below any alternative almost anywhere in the world. The transparent collectors generate heat the same way magnifying glasses do and at the same temperatures as mirror-based CSP, but at much lower costs. The collectors are installed in solar fields that are dimensioned according to the customers’ specifications for the amount and temperature of heat needed up to 400C.

The UNIT for Energy Efficient Buildings has two Professor chairs. The chair of building physics is hold by Professor Wolfgang Feist, who is the founder of the German Passive House Institute. His group is specialized thermal and moisture transport, acoustics of building construction as well as ventilation systems.
Prof. Wolfgang Streicher is head of the Institute of Structural Engineering and Material Sciences holds the char of energy efficient buildings and Renewable Energy. It represents a link between classical civil engineering in the building sector and the more mechanical engineering driven HVAC (Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning) and lighting system and the use of renewable energy (solar, biomass, ambient heat) in buildings.
The laboratories comprise climatic chambers for U-value measurement of smaller parts and a fully automatic and flexible heat source/sink apparatus with up to 60 kW heating/cooling supplies for standard and hardware in the loop tests and a test facility for smal decentralied air-air heat recovery heat pump units. The outdoor part includes an solar collector test stand, acoustics and thermal test benchs for façade elements (each for elements 2.6 * 2.6 m). Absolicon solar collectors focus the solar energy into a narrow line that efficiently can be converted to heat or electricity. We work with small parabolic trough technology (PTC), adapted for different climates.
Our focus is process heat, solar cooling and district heating. We have a lot of experience from delivering turnkey solar energy systems.
